The Hillcrest Wind Ensemble
Welcome! The Hillcrest Wind Ensemble, one of Southern California's finest adult musical organizations, celebrates over 20 years of providing quality musical programs for the greater San Diego community. Originally called San Diego's Finest City Freedom Band, the group was formed to bring music to the LGBT community as a marching band that also played concerts. With the turn of the new century, the band has evolved into an elite concert band, playing more advanced music with a new mission to entertain the ideal of diversity within our ranks as well as promoting quality music to all of San Diego.
The Hillcrest Wind Ensemble is a self-supporting program of The Center, a not-for-profit 501(c)3 organization. We do not receive any funding from The Center. Rather, we exist on income from concert ticket sales, the sale of merchandise, such as CDs, and donations from patrons and sponsors. The Largest Community Band Festival in the Southern United States!
Saturday & Sunday, May 19 and 20
Come enjoy the 18th Annual Community Band Festival in Old Poway Park. Hosted by The City of Poway and the Pomerado Community Band, the experience is truly a slice of Americana. Bands from all over the Southern California and the west will be performing from 10 am to 7pm on Saturday, noon to 7pm on Sunday. The Hillcrest Wind Ensemble will be performing on Sunday at 1pm.
The event is a wonderful opportunity for a family picnic in the park while enjoying spirited performances on the outdoor Gazebo Bandstand, offering a perfect setting for children (of all ages) to enjoy music without the requirement to sit still.

Concert Schedule
We perform at least four concerts per year, and in addition, some of our members get together in smaller groups to play at weddings, holiday parties, and other social functions in the community.
Spring Concert: Mid to late April
Summer Cabaret Concert: July 21, 2012; "pops"-style music
Fall Classics Concert: October 13, 2012
Holiday Concert: December 14, 2012; traditional and modern holiday music
Additional performances:
Twilight in the Park concert series in Balboa Park. This concert is normally on a Tuesday or Wednesday night in July.
Poway Community Band Festival. A two-day festival in May of community bands from Southern California and beyond. We normally play on Sunday at 1pm.
Rehearsal Schedule
We rehearse on Monday nights, 7 to 9:30pm in the recital hall of the United Church of Christ in Mission Hills, 4070 Jackdaw Street, San Diego 92103.
